On August 15, the Highway Traffic Police Brigade of the Traffic Police Detachment under the Public Security Bureau of Qianxinan Prefecture, Guizhou Province, issued an incident report confirming a serious traffic accident occurred within the Wutong Tunnel on the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway in the Qinglong section of Qianxinan Prefecture. The accident resulted in a vehicle fire, causing two fatalities.

The notice stated: "At 16:35 on August 14, a traffic accident involving a truck occurred 100 meters inside the Wutong Tunnel on the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway in Qinglong County, Qianxinan Prefecture (in the direction from Kunming to Anshun). The incident caused the vehicle to catch fire and produce thick smoke, resulting in the tragic deaths of two occupants. Following the incident, local Party committees, governments, and relevant departments including emergency response, public security, firefighting, medical services, and highway administration swiftly arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations, maintain order, and manage traffic flow. Rescue efforts, on-site investigations, and cleanup operations are currently ongoing, with the cause of the accident under further investigation."

Following the incident, multiple on-site videos were released. One of these videos, captured by the rear-facing camera of a vehicle positioned ahead of the accident at the time of the incident, clearly recorded the moment the accident occurred. The footage indicates the accident occurred at approximately 16:35:55 on August 14th inside a highway tunnel. The recording vehicle had just overtaken a small truck before entering the tunnel, with a slower-moving passenger car following behind the truck.

The dashcam footage shows that at 16:35:55, a sudden flash of fire erupted from behind, followed by a massive fireball rapidly spreading forward. The entire tunnel was instantly engulfed by the fireball, with a truck faintly visible tumbling within the flames. Subsequent video segments reveal heavy traffic congestion outside the tunnel, with thick smoke billowing from the entrance.

Judging by the explosive force of the impact, it appears a large truck rear-ended a smaller truck. According to the dashcam footage, there was no acceleration in the video, suggesting the rear-ending truck was traveling at high speed," a senior traffic accident investigator told Red Star News.

Police in Qianxinan Prefecture, Guizhou Province advise: Drivers and passengers are urged to monitor real-time traffic updates issued by public security authorities for this road section and plan travel routes accordingly. In case of emergencies, remember to "pull over, evacuate, and call the police immediately."
