According to the official measurement by the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck Feidong County, Hefei City (32.00°N, 117.61°E) at 19:29 on September 25, with a focal depth of 12 kilometers. No casualties or property damage have been reported so far. The Anhui Provincial Earthquake Administration and the China Earthquake Networks Center jointly assessed that this event was an aftershock of the magnitude 4.7 earthquake that struck Feidong on September 18. The likelihood of a magnitude 5 or greater earthquake occurring in the original epicenter area in the near future is low.

Statistics show this marks the fifth earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or higher to occur in Feidong County this year. The previous tremor, a 4.7-magnitude quake on September 18, was the strongest to hit the region in nearly five years. Additionally, earthquakes measuring 3.9, 3.1, and 3.5 magnitude struck Feidong County on September 14, May 12, and February 24 respectively. All epicenters were located in Liangyuan Town, with similar hypocenter depths.

Experts analyze that the frequent earthquakes in Feidong County are related to its location at the junction of the Tanlu Fault and Feidong Fault. Subject to compression from the Pacific and Indian tectonic plates, the area is prone to small and medium-sized earthquakes. While Hefei's seismic activity currently exhibits swarm characteristics, the likelihood of a major earthquake in the future remains low. Experts emphasize that the public should prepare for earthquake safety and exercise caution in verifying information to prevent unnecessary panic caused by the spread of rumors.
