At 1:52 a.m. on October 10, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck Xingwen County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province (28.12°N, 105.13°E), with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. Villages within 5 kilometers of the epicenter include Shaba Village, Luohangou, and Dalongtang. Townships within 20 kilometers include Dama Miao Ethnic Township, Shihai Town, and Xianfeng Miao Ethnic Township. The average elevation within 5 kilometers of the epicenter is approximately 677 meters.

Netizens in multiple locations across Sichuan, Guizhou, and Chongqing reported feeling the tremors and receiving earthquake early warnings. It is understood that within a 200-kilometer radius of the epicenter, 212 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or higher have occurred over the past five years. The largest was a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Luxian County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province on September 16, 2021 (122 kilometers from the current epicenter).
