On November 8, 2024, the People's Government of Xihu District, Benxi City issued an announcement stating that a building collapse occurred at a construction site in Benxi City, resulting in the deaths of three construction workers.

The notice indicates thatat approximately 14:07 on November 7, 2024, Benxi Sheng'an Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. experienced a collapse during repair and reinforcement work on an unused building at the former Paper Mill (now decommissioned) in Hedong Subdistrict Office, Xihu District. Following the incident, three construction workers were trapped beneath the rubble.

Following the incident, relevant authorities swiftly activated emergency response protocols and launched urgent search and rescue operations. Following intensive search and rescue efforts, by 2:40 a.m. on November 8, rescue personnel successfully extracted the three trapped construction workers and immediately transported them to the hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the medical team's utmost efforts, the three workers tragically succumbed to their severe injuries and were pronounced dead after all attempts to save them proved unsuccessful.

Currently, relevant departments in Benxi City have launched a comprehensive investigation, and the cause of the accident is still under further verification. The municipal government stated that it will strictly hold accountable the entities involved in the accident and strengthen safety supervision in the construction sector to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

The Benxi Municipal People's Government extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased construction workers and pledges to provide necessary assistance and support.
