According to statistics from the Provincial Climate Center, between 1949 and 2023, a total of 107 tropical cyclones affected Hainan Province's November weather, averaging 1.43 per year. The highest number occurred in 1970, with five cyclones. Among these, 14 were severe typhoons, averaging approximately 0.19 per year. However, no super typhoons impacted Hainan during this period. On the evening of November 9 this year, Typhoon Ginkgo reached Category 16 winds over the South China Sea, becoming the strongest typhoon to hit Hainan in November since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

In this historical data, a total of eight tropical cyclones made landfall on Hainan Island in November, each with a single landfall (1950, 1953, 1965, 1972, 1981, 1990, 1995, 2003). Typhoons that caused significant damage include Super Typhoon 7220 in 1972 and Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.

In November 1972, Super Typhoon 7220 formed and entered the South China Sea before making landfall near Wenchang at noon on the 8th. With sustained winds reaching 100 kilometers per hour over a radius of 100 kilometers, the storm persisted for nearly 20 hours and brought torrential rains. Precipitation in the northeast, north, and central regions reached 136–255 millimeters, resulting in multiple casualties. Wenchang, Qionghai, and other areas suffered severe damage.

In November 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan passed through the waters southwest of Hainan Island and entered the Gulf of Tonkin, bringing winds of force 10-12 and torrential rain. During this period, heavy rainfall occurred across all islands and reefs in Sansha City. Some townships on Hainan Island recorded rainfall exceeding 300 millimeters, with Maogan Township in Baoting reaching 570.6 millimeters, resulting in direct economic losses.
