A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Yongning County, Ningxia, with no casualties reported.

January 2, 2025, Yinchuan News—According to the China Earthquake Networks Center's official determination, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Yongning County, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (38.40°N, 106.22°E) at 10:01 Beijing Time on January 2, 2025. The hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers.

During the earthquake, residents in Yinchuan city and surrounding areas reported distinct tremors, with many noting shaking furniture and swaying chandeliers. On social media, some shared their experiences during the quake, though the overall situation remained relatively calm. Currently, no casualties or significant property damage have been reported.

Following the earthquake, Yinchuan's emergency management department promptly activated its contingency plan and organized relevant units to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the affected area. Local firefighting and public security departments have rushed to the scene to assist with resident evacuations and carry out safety hazard assessments. Meanwhile, experts from the China Earthquake Administration cautioned that aftershocks may occur, urging local residents to guard against secondary disasters and follow safety guidelines issued by the government.   

According to seismic experts' analysis, the epicenter of this earthquake was located in the vicinity of Yongning County, representing a normal manifestation of regional geological activity. Due to the shallow focal depth, seismic waves propagated rapidly, resulting in a relatively noticeable tremor. However, owing to its moderate magnitude, no significant damage occurred.   

The Yongning County Government stated that it will closely monitor the aftermath of the earthquake and ensure the swift restoration of normal living conditions for residents.
