According to the official measurement by the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Hongyuan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province (33.12°N, 102.64°E) at 5:07 a.m. on January 20, 2025, with a focal depth of 8 kilometers. As of approximately 9:00 a.m. the same day, no casualties or collapsed buildings have been reported locally. Relevant authorities are conducting further assessments of the disaster situation.

The epicenter of this earthquake was located 38 kilometers from Hongyuan County, 59 kilometers from Ruoergai County, and 307 kilometers from Chengdu. The average elevation within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is approximately 3,482 meters. A resident of Hongyuan County reported feeling strong tremors but confirmed that all family members are safe.

According to statistics, within a 200-kilometer radius of the epicenter, 75 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or higher have occurred over the past five years, with the largest being the 6.0-magnitude earthquake in Markam City on June 10, 2022. The Hongyuan County Emergency Management Bureau stated that all emergency departments are currently conducting thorough assessments of the disaster situation to ensure the safety of residents.
