Don't Underestimate This Invisible Killer in Winter! A Family of Five in Nanning, Guangxi, Trag
Recently, a severe carbon monoxide poisoning incident occurred in Xiaojicun Village, Xingning District, Nanning, Guangxi, tragically claiming the lives of a family of five. The victims were a couple who ran a pork shop and their three children, all in their early thirties. On the day of the incident, the family had closed all windows and doors while using a gas water heater for bathing. This caused carbon monoxide to rapidly accumulate in the sealed room until poisoning occurred. Following the tragedy, local authorities have launched door-to-door inspections and intensified gas safety awareness campaigns, urging residents to ensure proper ventilation when using gas water heaters to prevent poisoning risks.

Meanwhile, a heating-related accident occurred at Santai Mountain Park in Oujiang Town, Guidong County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. A woman camping overnight suffered carbon monoxide poisoning after lighting a charcoal stove inside her tent for warmth. Upon receiving the alert, local firefighters swiftly responded to the scene. Although initial attempts to contact the caller were unsuccessful, a search-and-rescue team eventually located the woman in a mountain ravine approximately 1 kilometer from the main road. Rescuers urgently placed her on a stretcher, applied warming measures, and rapidly transported her to the hospital for emergency treatment. After receiving medical care, the woman is now out of danger.
Currently, affected by a cold snap, temperatures have plummeted across many regions of China, prompting numerous households in southern areas to activate various heating devices. Experts caution that using gas water heaters or charcoal stoves for heating in enclosed spaces poses a high risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The public must ensure adequate ventilation to guarantee safe heating practices and prevent similar tragedies from recurring.
