No casualties reported in 4.8-magnitude earthquake in Eryuan, Yunnan

At 00:08 on April 24, 2025, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Niujie Township, Eryuan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province (26.27°N, 100.00°E), with a focal depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor was felt across all nine townships in Eryuan County. The county promptly activated a Level IV earthquake emergency response and launched a comprehensive inspection. By 7:00 AM that day, 442 households were confirmed to have sustained building damage. Infrastructure remained intact, with no casualties or secondary disasters reported.

Earthquake Overview

Occurrence Time and Location:At 00:08 on April 24, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Niujie Township (26.27°N, 100.00°E) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.  

Aftershocks and Perceived Range:Prior to this mainshock, the area experienced aftershocks of magnitude 3.2 at 18:44 and magnitude 3.0 at 19:56 on the 23rd; all nine townships within Eryuan County reported noticeable shaking.   

Emergency Response

Emergency Response Activation:Following the earthquake, Dali Prefecture and Eryuan County simultaneously activated Level IV earthquake emergency response procedures. Rescue forces at both prefectural and county levels were swiftly deployed according to contingency plans.  

Rescue Forces:Fire rescue teams, forest firefighting units, township and village officials, along with personnel from communications, power, water conservancy, and other departments, immediately deployed to the epicenter area to coordinate on-site response and monitoring efforts.

Investigation and Resolution

Housing and Facilities:As of7:00 AM on April 24, a cumulative total of 442 households have reported housing damage. Inspections of infrastructure including roads, transportation, water conservancy, power, and communications have found no damage.  

Secondary disasters: A thorough inspection was conducted on key areas including gas stations, reservoirs, power transmission towers, communication base stations, and geological hazard sites. No secondary incidents such as landslides, collapses, or leaks were detected.

Personnel Status: No casualties or trapped individuals have been reported at this time, and the safety of the public has been effectively ensured.
