Iranian port explosion has killed 18 and injured over 700
On April 26 at noon local time, a massive explosion occurred at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province, southern Iran. A raging fire immediately erupted at the scene and continued to spread, with thick plumes of smoke billowing skyward.

According to the latest report from Iran's Ministry of Interior, the incident has resulted in at least14 fatalities and over 750 injuries. Approximately 300 of the injured remain hospitalized locally, with some critically wounded patients transferred to Tehran for treatment.
The Iranian Ministry of Health declared a state of emergency in Bandar Abbas that evening and ordered the formation of specialized health teams to monitor and protect against potentially released hazardous gases such as ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.

The Chinese Consulate General in Abbas immediately activated its consular protection emergency response mechanism. After verification, it was confirmed that three Chinese citizens sustained minor abrasions in the explosion and have since received medical treatment with no lasting harm. The Embassy simultaneously issued a security advisory, advising Chinese enterprises and personnel in the region to remain vigilant, avoid sensitive areas, and ensure the safety of lives and property.
The cause of the incident remains pending final investigation findings, though preliminary indications suggest improper handling of hazardous chemical containers at the port area. The affected port serves as a major shipping hub for Iran, handling over 85% of the country's container throughput. The explosion is unrelated to Iran's primary oil facilities.
